It was the fall of 2021 when I was out for a walk and listening to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. I realized that in just 2 years - 2023 - was going to mark the 50th anniversary of the album. I got the crazy notion to play the entire album for an audience in homage to this masterpiece. However, I barely knew any other musicians and hadn’t played live for an audience at all. I needed other people to help me realize this dream. Through a friend, I got in contact with Ken St. Onge at work; he’d been in a band with Joe Kestenbaum so the three of us got together and started jamming.
Not long after, I heard Dani O'Neil play keyboard accompaniment for the play Clue on Stage at the Warner Theatre in Torrington, CT. After a bit of sleuthing, I reached out to see if she might be interested - and she was! Around the same time, my wife had been talking with our neighbor Becky Sears about the idea, so we arranged a joint audition with Dani on keys and Becky on vocals. The moment we played Us and Them and The Great Gig in the Sky, we knew we were onto something special!
Finding the right drummer took time, but when Dr. Chris Faesi joined us, the chemistry was instant. His skill and energy reignited the project, and after a year and a half of hard work - with plenty of starts, stops, and adjustments - we were ready. We proudly performed the album twice in the summer of 2023, just after the 50th anniversary of its release, with special guest Ryan Mancini adding his incredible saxophone solos as the perfect finishing touch.
As we learned Dark Side, we realized there were countless other artists we wanted to explore too! We began building a setlist of classic rock favorites - music that helped us shape our unique sound. We’ve been enjoying the ride ever since!
“Take the Time” for the things that are important. This started with an idea and a dream. It’s become so much more than I originally imagined. I’m grateful to the great musicians who helped to make this possible and so many family and friends who have supported this journey!
